Mission Statement

n.e.w.s. is a horizontally-organised, cumulative knowledge-based website for contemporary art and new media which reflects geographic diversity and facilitates a framework for collaboration, content and visions of change outside the normal parameters of the established art world workings. n.e.w.s. is structured by diverse curatorial contributions from around the globe, combining Web 2.0 technology as a blog/archive (images and text), along with a wiki (collaborative writing), tagging (shared vocabulary) and voting. Content is curatorially determined: images, texts, podcasts and links provide information in the form of documentation of previous works or works online.

n.e.w.s. is a tool for a specific artistic network, distrubuting immaterial resources and intellectual goods in an era of diversification, bringing together globally culled voices, texts and images. A non-commercially driven platform involving the latest internet technology, n.e.w.s. attempts to initiate, build and foster relations and provide a valuable portal for many people involved in contemporary art communities. Dedicated to cultural bricolage, n.e.w.s. enables less seen artistic endeavors worldwide visibility.

The discursive as an expansive practice, in an accessible media of multilingual translation (Spanish, Chinese, Arabic, Indonesian, Portuguese, French, etc.) contextualises the contributions and opens up new possibilities. Furthermore, the semantic web is conducive to tagging structures, allowing new networks and linkages. Opensourced, collaborative action and authoring are not only encouraged but also facilitated along with an event calendar and database through state of the art programming. In addition, n.e.w.s will produce printed multilingual publications.
